Natural Pain Relief

Lower Pain from the Outside In
Got pain? Pop a pill.  It’s a reaction to pain that comes almost automatically for most people but there are alternatives to those over the counter pain killers. And whether you use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) periodically or chronically, you do want to be careful not to overdo it.

Numerous clinical studies have found that long term exposure to NSAIDS can lead to a breakdown of the stomach lining which can leave it susceptible to ulcers, it strains the liver and the kidneys, it has been linked to an increased risk of heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems, and can also cause a myriad of side-effects (the most ironic of which is headaches).  Naturopaths believe that eliminating these from your pain management practice is beneficial to your overall health.

So, what are you supposed to do when you’ve got that burning pain in your legs or arms after a big workout, or that shooting pain in your back from a long-term injury?  Perhaps you are recovering from surgery or suffering from arthritis – how are you supposed to get relief without popping pills?

First we have to understand what is causing the pain.  Most pain is caused by inflammation which slows circulation in the lymphatic system.  That, in turn, leads to further inflammation.  To naturally decrease inflammation, you need to focus on improving the circulation of white blood cells and keeping the lymphatic system moving.

Thermoflow is an all-nature pain relief product (available at Mark’s Pharmacy in Vancouver or online at Thermoflow-health.com) that does just that. They call it “pain care you wear” and you literally wear it over the area that you have pain.

Thermoflow products have microscopic ceramic particles woven into the thread of the fabric.  This reflects the body’s far infrared energy back into the body to reduce swelling, increase circulation and alleviate pain. Even without pain, pain experts recommend wearing Thermoflow to keep inflammation in check, before it can register as pain.

So next time you come back from the gym with muscle pain don’t reach for the NSAIDS (which studies have shown actually decrease muscle growth) and slip on some Thermoflow bike shorts, or arm bands.  If it’s a headache, fight it with a headband or if the aches and pains have settled in all over; cover up with the longjohns and the long sleeve shirt.
